Job Overview/Purpose:

The role incumbent will be responsible for conducting macro-focused financial markets research and strategy in support of the Senior Market Strategist.

In performing the role, an individual is expected to achieve the business, regulatory and personal goals which are articulated and discussed through annual appraisals, certification and a financial target consistent with the key strategic and business aims of RaboResearch Global Economics & Markets and in close cooperation with Markets and the overall Bank strategy.

 

Context of Job:

RaboResearch (RR) comprises of all of the bank’s global research activities, including research into the Netherlands, Economics and Sustainability (NES), Food & Agribusiness (F&A) and Global Economics & Markets (GEM), and complimented by a Data Science, Digital Content and Global Support team.

 

RR GEM is the bank’s center of competence for international Macroeconomics and financial markets research. The team’s mandate is to ensure key clients have access to meaningful information and analysis to help with their risk management and investment decisions. The team is organized into asset class coverage, including Macro, FX, Rates, Credit & Regulation, Agri Commodities and Energy, and present in the bank’s dealing rooms in Utrecht, London, New York, Singapore and Sao Paolo. Research services are provided internally to Markets, the Executive Board, Treasury, Member Banks, Investor Relations. Externally through Sales, Senior Bankers and Relationship Managers the team primarily services Mid-Size Corporates, Large Corporates and FI Clients. The focus is on value-added activities, i.e. presentations, maintenance/special reports, media profiling, responding to ad hoc client requests.

 

Job Responsibilities

Part of a small team that produces macro focused financial market strategy for internal stakeholders and external clients.
Build market analysis models for forecasting currencies and interest rates.
Build analytical models examining cross-asset relationships.
Build models forecasting likely flows between asset classes and different types of market participants.
Build econometric models for economic variable forecasting.
Develop models offering insights into market microstructure.
Develop trade ideas across macro markets.
Contribute and assist with the publishing of timely periodical research/strategy reports, with an emphasis on tailor-made, event and theme-driven research, rather than maintenance reports.
Support the provision of tailor-made research solutions to key clients, including conference calls, presentations and client visits.
Swift interpretation of market events/data/developments and communication thereof to internal stakeholders (sales, traders), as well as clients, where relevant for the rates domain.
Participation in ad hoc working groups and brainstorming with key stakeholders in Markets and wider Rabobank as required as well as ad hoc communication.
Contribute positively to the global research program, by actively interacting with and leveraging off other analysts within FMR, often in different geographical locations, as well as other research groups within Rabobank.

Job Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:

0-2 years in financial markets
Undergraduate degree preferably in economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or data science
Post-graduate degree/Programming qualifications (Desirable)
Strong statistical analysis background
Strong time-series analysis skills
Strong Python coding ability
VBA coding skills preferable
Econometric background preferable
Excellent Excel skills
Strong Powerpoint and Word skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Target Hiring Range:

$115,000 – $185,000

 

This position is subject to the terms of Rabobank’s compensation plans and policies.  It is anticipated that the position will pay within the target hiring range.  The range is reflective of the desired primary physical work location and may be adjusted outside of the projected range based on geographical differentiation if the actual work location of the hired candidate differs from the desired primary location, or for other lawful reasons.  Further, the position includes all other benefits provided to Rabobank employees, including healthcare benefits, 401k matching, vacation, sick leave, parental leave, possible discretionary bonuses and all other benefits that are all governed by and subject to ERISA plan documents and eligibility.
