Women in Derivatives (“WIND”) is recruiting for an exciting new position – Director of Membership and Development (“DMD”). The DMD is a full time position, and is responsible for engaging our membership and connecting with our sponsors to ensure the continuous advancement of WIND’s programming. The DMD will also assist in executing the overall strategic plan of WIND, along with its Executive Officers and Board of Directors (the “Board”), to implement its programs toward its mission. Key duties include: supporting fundraising efforts, promoting WIND via social media, engaging and growing our membership and social media following, executing strategic plans, recruiting volunteers to support business objectives and tracking key performance indicators (“KPIs”). This position reports directly to the President of the Board who will have oversight of the DMD’s general responsibilities. This role can be extremely rewarding and allows an individual to be creative as she works across different committees and broadens her relationships with the Board and the WIND membership.


1) Financial Performance and Viability: The DMD will work with the Fundraising & Finance Committee, and the Treasurer to ensure resources are sufficient for the financial health of the organization. Working with the Treasurer, she will:

  • Coordinate with the Committee leadership to prepare an annual proposed budget
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, which should accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
  • Institute responsible fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget

2) Membership: The DMD will be responsible for engaging across the entire WIND membership globally. In this capacity, the individual will:

  • Identify resources needed, recruit and engage volunteers or consultancy bench
  • Gather insights around content through various mediums, eg: survey, real time feedback
  • Track our social media engagement, push/promote content, work closely with our Communications & Marketing committee to create content for a quarterly newsletter to be shared with our membership and corporate sponsors
  • Determine appropriate benchmarks and targets each year for increasing WIND membership

3) Operational Management: The DMD will be responsible for the operational management of the Board directives. In this capacity, the individual will:

  • Coordinate and collaborate with committee leads, which currently include: (i) Events committee (focused on industry events); (ii) Leadership committee (focused on personal and leadership development events and content; (iii) Fundraising & Finance committee (focused on growing sponsorship base and revenue growth) (iv) Communications & Marketing Committee (focused on social media presence, our digital content, and membership engagement) (v) and Nominating & Governance (future pipeline of Board members and Advisory Council)
  • Manage budget for each respective program along with key deliverables and work closely with the Treasurer to ensure overall financial well-being

4) Project Management: The DMD will execute plans in collaboration with, and as directed by, the relevant committee leads as described below (current committees include Leadership, Events, Fundraising& Finance, Nominating & Governance and Communications & Marketing):

  • For Leadership and Events, this individual will work at the direction of the committee leads to develop a plan to support ongoing calendar of activities and to oversee the execution of key functions with Admin staff, such as invitations, secure event space or virtual platforms, secure sponsors, coordinate with guest speakers, help develop collateral for the day of the event, and any other related activities
  • For Fundraising & Finance, work at the direction of the committee lead(s) to support efforts including sponsors tracking, outreach, routine fundraiser planning and an annual gala, are properly executed
  • For Nominating & Governance committee, track our pipeline to ensure database remains updated and to identify key women through her strong engagement with WIND (eg: volunteer efforts, social media amplification or speaking engagements)
  • Track and communicate status of all projects to Committee leads monthly and WIND Board on a quarterly basis
  • Metric tracking: Utilize our self-review process to track trends and performance of the overall efficiency of the Board

5) Board Engagement: The DMD will regularly communicate with the Board to provide the information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Provide regular updates on the status of ongoing projects
  • Organize regular board meetings and work with the Chair and Secretary to compile an agenda and gather relevant materials, including any needed consent agenda materials ahead of the board meeting
  • Meet with individual board members and committee leads as necessary to define needs for the furtherance of relevant projects to ensure continued progress.

Demonstrate project management skills and strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating and program development

Budget management skills and Microsoft office skills

Interpersonal skills to collaborate with and motivate people

A bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience

Nonprofit experience a plus, but not required
