This position will support the Futures Clearing & Collateral business in the Institutional Clients Group. The [Senior Attorney ICG – Futures, Clearing and Collateral] will be a direct report of the lead Attorney for the business in North America and, in that role, will support the day-to-day legal coverage of a leading futures commission merchant in North America.
Responsibilities, as delegated by the lead Attorney, will include: providing advice and guidance to the business and control groups within Citi on futures and cleared derivatives legal and regulatory matters; providing advice and direction to negotiators on the drafting and negotiation of clearing, execution, give-up agreements and other complex clearing services agreements; providing advice and guidance to the business and control groups within Citi on US FCM impacts of new or emerging extra-territorial rules or regulations adopted by foreign jurisdictions, such as the UK and EU; participating in the legal review of new or existing clearing relationships and inter-affiliate clearing arrangements, and participating in regulatory initiatives and special projects relating to the Futures Clearing & Collateral business unit’s activities in North America
A successful candidate will be expected to have
- JD degree
- Deep knowledge and understanding of US futures and cleared derivatives regulation and market practice
- Experience negotiating futures and cleared derivatives documentation
- Experience reviewing and analyzing legal opinions relating to futures and cleared derivative activities, including Basel III well founded basis standard of legal opinion and documentation review
Prior experience as an in-house attorney at the CFTC, NFA, a futures exchange, CCP or other self-regulatory organization is desired, but is not a requirement. + years practice experience at a major law firm or in-house legal department of a financial institution will also be considered.
