A Vice President in Fixed Income Operations is integral to identifying and managing Firm risk through oversight of trade capture, reconciliation, as well as documentation and settlement of client, broker, and proprietary trades. Throughout the life of a trade, a Fixed Income professional will face-off directly with sales and trading as well have regular interaction with compliance and non-market risk. Fixed Income TSG primarily supports corporate bonds, commercial paper, treasuries, asset-backed securities including mortgage-backed securities and securitized products, municipal securities, and distressed debt. Additionally, the team produces regulatory reporting for the Federal Reserve detailing the Firm’s positions, transaction, financing, and fails data of U.S. government securities and other select fixed income securities.
 
Responsibilities:

Role will gain oversight of the Equity Derivative Trade Support team. This individual will be required to immediately provide enhanced transparency and control within the day-to-day support environment, establishing consistency of best practice and management reporting for the Swaps, Vanilla and Exotics TSG teams. Additionally, this individual will need to actively address the team mix of resources and functional coverage. Currently the team is aligned along specific trading desk set ups. The Drafting team looks after the production of documentation for Interest Rate, Credit and FX Derivative trades for North America, ensuring accurate trade representation to match Morgan Stanley’s internal risk bookings. The team is groups of experienced drafting SME’s covering the confirmation drafting process of exotic option and swap transactions done from New York, with a high focus of accurate and timely confirmation issuance in line with the CFTC and EMIR confirmations requirements. In addition, the team runs various initiatives to standardize and streamline internal confirmations processes to increase accuracy, efficiency and reduce cost per trade. The team is broken down internally by asset classes but set the long term goal of breaking down the walls of asset class specific structures and introducing a flexible, cross asset coverage model.  The role is a drafting Operations Specialist function in the local Interest Rate, Credit and FX Derivatives drafting team in Baltimore. The  main responsibility is day-to-day operational risk management associated to the documentation of OTC derivative transactions. The role entails responsibilities of drafting and reviewing confirmations for structured and bespoke Fixed Income Derivative Trades across various lifecycle events, performing oversight over functions outsources far shore, management of incoming and outgoing queries with the team’s internal client base and other ad hoc confirmation documentation support for the Fixed Income Business Unit. The Fixed Income Trade Support group provides operational coverage to trading, underwriting, and the structuring of fixed income securities. An Associate in Fixed Income Operations is integral to identifying and managing Firm risk through trade capture, reconciliation, as well as documentation and settlement of client, broker, and proprietary trades. Throughout the life of a trade, a Fixed Income professional will face-off directly with sales and trading as well have regular interaction with compliance and non-market risk. ISG Product Operations partners closely with Shared Services and Banking Operations as well as Branch Operations and Operations Risk & Control to deliver a connected ‘front to back’ view of operations to ISG Sales and Trading.
 
This role will be responsible for improving the efficiency of daily processing; managing and improving the service delivery within the Project and IT teams; and delivery of improvements to the infrastructure and processes. This individual will work with stakeholders across the Operations, Projects and IT teams within the FID Securities Operations space. The Business Analyst is expected to own and drive distinct components of the overall solution. They need to be hands-on in terms of the detail and be able to communicate risks and issues to the project manager and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery.
 
Other responsibilities include:
 
– Leading the analysis and requirements gathering
– Identifying and resolving requirement conflicts
– Create and maintain project documentation such as BRDs, user stories, test plans and training documentation
– Liaise with technical teams to ensure business objectives are achieved
– Effectively use tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SnagIt to present information and facilitate decision making by project participants.
– Conduct Working Groups and Stakeholder Updates as needed

Requirements:
 
– Previous BA, QA or UAT experience preferred
– Experience gathering requirements, writing and delivering formal documents preferred
– Familiarity with the Fixed Income trade life cycle preferred
– Experience liaising with technology groups to provide feedback on testing issues preferred
– Ability to build relationships and articulate key messages succinctly and effectively through verbal and written communications
– Microsoft Tools: competent in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

This Operations group supports the equity, fixed income, liquidity and alternative businesses for Morgan Stanley       Investment Management (MSIM), providing middle-office services including portfolio manager support, client services, portfolio transitions, market registration, product data and performance and attribution analysis. MSIM Operations also provides mutual fund support, derivative processing and counterparty and credit event management.
 
Background to the team
 
• The MSIM Operations Risk team supports the MSIM Operations line teams through the identification, assessment, remediation, reporting, mitigation and governance of risk
• The team is also involved in internal and external audit facilitations, end-user entitlements reviews, independent assessments, business continuity planning, managing regulatory risks, risk education and awareness and embedding a culture of risk management
• The team is global in nature with staff located in New York, London and Mumbai
• The New York team is responsible for North America Operational risk and control for the Investment Management Operations team
 
Position Description
 
The position is primarily responsible for risk coverage, assessment and monitoring for Operations functions in Investment Management. This position would also require the individual to work closely with global functional teams and lead risk projects/initiatives in addition to regional day to day risk coverage and support.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
• Operations Risk Management – risk identification, assessment, monitoring, tracking, reporting and mitigation
• Manage the risk identification and escalation process for risk matters within the region
• Participating and supporting regulatory reporting framework; with specific focus on regulatory matters & impacts in the region
• Providing governance and oversight over annual SSAE 16
• Contributing to risk incident post-mortems and deep-dives
• Periodic functional risk assessments and reporting to senior stakeholders
• Review and enhancement to current risk measurements and indicators in support of operational risks within the region
• System entitlements review facilitation
• Business Continuity Planning and Information Security Review
• Liaising and coordination for Audits (Internal, SSAE 16), external assessments and Regulatory Exams
• Facilitate Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSA)
• Drive the Operations Risk program and initiatives globally and regionally, including participating in or leading associated projects
• Other related duties as assigned

Skills Required
 
• Preferable experience in Investment Management, Operations, Operational Risk and/or Regulatory Reporting
• A Risk Manager with approximately 5 years of operational risk experience
• Ability to lead and drive initiatives independently
• Strong Presentation skills and an ability to report to and  manage senior stakeholders
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail, quality and accuracy
• High degree of computer literacy, including working knowledge of Windows-based applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• An ability to ‘think outside the box’ and look for creative solutions
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Proven record of collaborating with colleagues across geographic and functional boundaries
• Strong drive for continuous improvement
 
Skills Desired
 
• Relevant prior experience or knowledge of regulatory environment 
• Relevant prior experience in conducting internal audits for Mutual funds and any exposure to Audit exercises will be an added advantage
